Meet your Travel Director and fellow travellers over dinner in Zagreb, Croatia’s capital. Sharing a meal with the small group offers a relaxed introduction to the people travelling with you across the country.

Enjoy Croatian dishes as conversation turns to the places ahead, from inland landscapes to Adriatic islands. It is a hosted gathering rather than a routine hotel meal, with time to ask questions and settle into the group.

Meet the curator and a local artist at Zagreb’s Kolekcionart Gallery. Move through the space as they discuss selected works, recent exhibitions and how they collaborate to present contemporary Croatian art.

Hear directly from people shaping the city’s creative scene, including their work with younger artists. The opportunity to ask questions brings the ideas behind the artworks into focus and offers a personal perspective on Zagreb beyond its historic streets.

Walk Zagreb’s centre with a Local Expert, taking in the Art Pavilion, Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts and tree-lined Zrinjevac Park. Ride the 66-metre funicular from the commercial Lower Town to the historic Upper Town.

See the patterned roof of St. Mark’s Church and Lotršcak Tower, and pass through the Stone Gate towards the main square. In operation since 1890, the funicular makes the city’s contrasting districts easy to appreciate.

Travel by underground train and explore on foot inside Slovenia’s Postojna Cave. Its vast limestone chambers reveal stalactites, stalagmites and other formations shaped by water over millions of years.

This extensive karst system has more than 20 kilometres of surveyed passages and introduced an underground railway in the 19th century. Learn about the cave’s importance to karst research and its unusual aquatic resident, the proteus, or olm.

Step inside Pula Arena with a Local Expert and walk the stone terraces of one of the world’s largest surviving Roman amphitheatres. Look towards the harbour as you consider how this Adriatic port connected Istria to the wider empire.

Built in the first century, the arena once held crowds of up to 20,000 for gladiatorial spectacles. Its remarkably complete outer walls give a tangible sense of the scale and public life of Roman Pula.

Explore Plitvice Lakes National Park with a Local Expert and discover a UNESCO-listed landscape of forest, lakes and cascading water. Hear how researchers monitor its fragile habitats and why low-impact visitor practices matter here.

The park’s lakes are linked by natural tufa barriers formed as mineral-rich water flows through the limestone terrain. Local stories add a human perspective to the work of protecting the landscape and its wildlife.

Meet women from the Tara community near Plitvice and see the traditional handicrafts they create. Hear personal stories and learn about local customs from members of a community association formed mainly by older women, many of whom were once refugees.

Income from tourism has helped fund their small community hub and supports the makers’ wellbeing. This visit creates space for conversation while contributing directly to their work and livelihoods.

Walk through Zadar’s historic peninsula, passing the remains of its Roman forum and browsing a market where stalls display local cheese, smoked ham and seasonal fruit.

Roman ruins and medieval churches sit within the streets of an Adriatic city that remains part of everyday local life. The walk offers a close look at that continuity, from ancient stonework to the colours and conversation of the produce stalls.

Explore Trogir’s UNESCO-listed island town on an orientation through its narrow stone lanes. See St. Lawrence’s Cathedral and the Cipiko Palace among the landmarks clustered around its compact centre.

Romanesque architecture and later Venetian details reflect the powers that shaped this small Adriatic harbour. Walking the lanes makes their layers of history especially clear, with carved facades and intimate squares close to the waterfront.

Explore Diocletian’s Palace with a Local Expert in the heart of Split. Walk through its cellars and Peristyle, visit St. Duje’s Cathedral and see the Golden Gate at the old town’s northern edge.

Built as a fortified retirement residence for the Roman emperor Diocletian in the fourth century, the complex became the foundation of a living city. The cathedral occupies his former mausoleum, illustrating how Split adapted its Roman inheritance over centuries.

Cross the sheltered bay by private boat towards Mali Ston, weather permitting, with views of the Pelješac shoreline and its vineyards. Sip traditional brandy and meet an oyster farmer to see how shellfish grow on ropes suspended in the water.

Learn about the bay’s environment and harvesting methods before tasting freshly opened oysters or mussels with local Dalmatian wine. The experience connects a working coastal tradition to the distinctive flavour of its waters.

Walk Dubrovnik’s limestone Stradun with a Local Expert, taking in Onofrio’s Fountain and St. Blaise’s Church. Visit the cathedral and Franciscan Monastery within the compact, UNESCO-listed Old Town.

The city’s defensive walls frame streets, churches and civic buildings beside its historic harbour. Exploring on foot reveals how Dubrovnik’s maritime past is expressed in its carefully built public spaces and the stone facades that line them.

Sail across the Bay of Dubrovnik, weather permitting, for a view of the walled city from the water. Spend time on deck looking towards its fortresses, harbour and the coastline beyond.

The sea-facing perspective shows why Dubrovnik’s defences and maritime setting are inseparable. Changing evening light brings out the pale stone walls against the Adriatic, offering time for photographs and a quiet look back at the city.

Share a farewell dinner in Dubrovnik with your Travel Director and small group. Enjoy Croatian dishes together and exchange favourite moments from the country’s cities, inland landscapes and islands.

This hosted meal is a chance to revisit the experiences that stood out to each traveller, from Roman landmarks to Adriatic harbours. Conversation around the table gives the group a personal close to its journey through Croatia.

Join an excursion to Kumrovec in the countryside outside Zagreb. This optional visit offers a change of setting from the capital’s streets and an opportunity to encounter a village associated with Croatia’s rural heritage.

Kumrovec is known for its preserved traditional houses and as the birthplace of Josip Broz Tito. The excursion is at additional cost and bookable on tour; the itinerary does not specify which village sites are included.

Explore Stari Grad and Vrboska on an optional excursion across the island of Hvar. Visit a wine cellar to taste island specialties and discover another side of Hvar beyond its busy harbour.

Stari Grad is one of the Adriatic’s oldest settlements, while Vrboska is a smaller waterfront village shaped by island life. The cellar visit introduces local produce and winemaking traditions. This experience is at additional cost and bookable on tour.

Travel from Dubrovnik to Montenegro on an optional excursion following the Bay of Kotor to the UNESCO-listed town of Kotor. Take in the bay’s steep mountain setting and the historic town sheltered along its shore.

Kotor’s old centre reflects centuries of Adriatic trade and Venetian influence, with fortified stone streets beneath the surrounding slopes. This cross-border experience is at additional cost and bookable on tour; specific guided visits are not detailed in the itinerary.

Walk Korcula’s walled Old Town with a Local Expert, visiting St. Mark’s Cathedral and crossing the main square. Pass the Town Museum, Bishop’s Palace and Town Hall, where Venetian coats of arms recall centuries of rule from across the Adriatic.

See ruins associated with the local tradition of Marco Polo’s birth house and hear how that story connects to the island’s trading past. The peninsula’s close-set streets reveal medieval defences alongside later Venetian detail.
