Additional information
Kongsfjorden & Krossfjorden Zodiac Glacier Cruise
Cruise beneath steel-blue peaks as we launch expedition boats to skim along the glacier-carved shores of Kongsfjorden and Krossfjorden. Drift among brash ice, watch for ringed or bearded seals, and feel the chill as you idle beside blue-hued ice cliffs.
Your guides interpret glacial dynamics, calving patterns, and seabird activity while you pause for photos and reflection. The interplay of light, ice, and mountain walls turns this fjord system into a natural amphitheater of Arctic geology.
Raudfjorden Tundra Landing & Beach Clean-up
Go ashore with your Expedition Team to explore the Arctic tundra of Raudfjorden, where saxifrages and mosses cling to gravel flats below serrated peaks. Follow naturalist-led routes while keeping a respectful watch for wildlife.
Join fellow travelers to participate in a beach clean up, removing marine debris swept in by polar currents. This hands-on citizen-science effort supports healthier habitats for seabirds, walrus, and foxes while deepening your connection to Svalbard’s fragile environment.
Liefdefjorden Cruise to Monaco Glacier (Monacobreen)
Glide into ice-studded Liefdefjorden toward the luminous wall of Monaco Glacier (Monacobreen). From the open decks or expedition boats, feel the Arctic stillness break with the crack of calving ice and the hiss of drifting bergy bits.
Guides point out kittiwakes feeding at the brash ice edge and scan for resting seals on floes. This broad fjord frames a textbook scene of Svalbard glaciology—color, texture, and cold light playing across a living river of ice.
Ice-Edge Attempt beyond 80° North
Sail toward the high Arctic to cross the 80th parallel if conditions allow. The shifting boundary of the ice edge is a realm of floes, leads, and luminous pack-ice where life gathers at the meeting of ocean and frozen sea.
Scan with your guides for ivory gulls, seals, and walruses resting on ice pans, appreciating vast perspectives over a sheet of pack ice. This is expedition cruising in its purest form—defined by nature, seized in the moment.
Hinlopen Strait Zodiac to Alkefjellet Bird Cliffs
Board small boats for an exhilarating approach into the Hinlopen Strait, where volcanic ramparts vault straight from the sea. At Alkefjellet bird cliffs, tens of thousands of Brunnich’s guillemots wheel and cry above dark basalt ledges.
Your naturalists interpret nesting behavior and predator-prey drama while you pass beneath a thundering seabird colony. The scale, sound, and motion capture one of the North Atlantic’s great seasonal wildlife spectacles.
Walrus Haul-Out Visit on Edgeøya or Barentsøya
Visit a traditional walrus haul-out, approaching quietly by ship or small boats to observe these social giants basking in heaps of tusks and whiskers. Their grunts, snorts, and occasional shuffles animate a classic Svalbard shoreline.
Guides maintain a respectful distance while explaining the species’ recovery after historic overhunting and the rich benthic ecosystems that sustain them. Expect contemplative moments alongside raw Arctic life.
Hornsund & Bellsund Scenic Fjord Cruising
Absorb the drama of Hornsund, where pyramid peaks and tidewater glaciers crowd the shores beneath Mount Hornsundtind. Keep watch for seals on floes and minke whales surfacing in steel-gray channels.
Continue to the broad arms of Bellsund, where weathered huts and skeletal timbers evoke whalers and trappers, including trailblazer Wanny Woldstad. Your team narrates natural and human histories that layer these storied fjords with atmosphere.
Bamsebu Historic Trappers’ Station
Visit Bamsebu, a simple shore station that preserves the rough-hewn realities of overwintering in Svalbard. Weathered timbers and scattered relics recall seasons when hunters faced polar night and drifting pack-ice.
