Hear how merchants and monarchs once navigated this strategic corridor at Europe’s crossroads. Wrap your hands around a warm drink on deck while low sun and winter light on forested hills turn the water to silver—an ideal time to photograph the landscape.
Hungarian Christmas Folklore Show On Board
Experience a lively Hungarian Christmas folklore show on board, where fiddles, the shimmering cimbalom and swirling csárdás rhythms fill the lounge. Dancers in embroidered costumes bring village traditions to life with exuberant steps and hand-clapping refrains.
Your host introduces the customs of Advent and folk heritage from the Great Plain to Transdanubia, revealing the stories behind melodies heard in cafés and concert halls alike. Toast the evening as music and movement carry the spirit of the season down the Danube.
Bratislava Castle & Old Town Walking Tour
Explore hilltop Bratislava Castle, where bastions survey three countries and the broad Danube below. From the terraces, take in panoramic Danube views before descending into the historic core lined with pastel facades and cosy cafés.
Wander cobbles to Michael’s Gate and the Old Town square, hearing tales of Habsburg coronations, medieval guilds and baroque palaces. In winter, the scent of cinnamon and roasted nuts mingles with brass carols, adding a festive hush to elegant streets and courtyards.
Melk Abbey Tour & Dürnstein Village Stroll
Visit resplendent Melk Abbey, a Benedictine masterpiece poised above the Danube. Step through grand halls to its ornate library and Imperial Gallery, where ceiling frescoes and gilded stucco chronicle monastic learning and Baroque splendour.
Continue to the Wachau’s jewel, Durnstein, to wander lanes scented with apricot liqueur. Gaze up at the blue abbey tower of Durnstein and the craggy ruins linked to the Richard the Lionheart legend, with terraced vineyards and river views framing the scene.
Christmas Stollen Baking Demonstration On Board
Join our festive stollen-making demonstration in the ship’s lounge and learn how bakers enrich dough with citrus peel, rum-soaked raisins and a marzipan heart. Watch shaping, proofing and sugaring techniques that create this cherished holiday loaf.
As warm spices perfume the air, hear about the pastry’s Saxon origins and its journey along the Danube’s trade routes. Pick up tips you can recreate at home to bring a taste of Central Europe to your own table.
Christmas Day Gala Dinner On Board
Savour a candlelit Christmas Gala Dinner crafted by the ship’s culinary team, pairing regional flavours with seasonal touches. Expect a polished seasonal menu and festive table settings as the river drifts by outside frost-tipped windows.
Raise a glass to shared journeys and winter scenery as conversations warm and the galley sends out course after course. Linger over dessert while the ship’s twinkling garlands and soft carols set a celebratory rhythm.
Linz Historic Centre Walking Tour
Walk the Baroque heart of Upper Austria’s capital, from the vast Hauptplatz and the Trinity Column to arcaded courtyards and guildhouses dusted with winter light. Hear how the Danube shaped commerce, craft and culture in this handsome riverside city.
Climb toward Linz Castle for views over spires and the river’s broad sweep, noting Renaissance stonework and modern museum wings. On Boxing Day, streets feel contemplative, lending added charm to pastel facades and nativity scenes in quiet squares.
Salzburg Guided Tour & Festive Old Town
Explore Salzburg’s UNESCO centre with an expert guide, where the mighty Hohensalzburg Fortress crowns baroque streets tied to Mozart heritage. Cross elegant squares and the Mirabell Gardens, passing domes, arcades and pastel townhouses along the Salzach River.
In Cathedral Square, admire the towering tree and trace the carol’s origins with a nod to “Silent Night”. You’ll have time to wander cosy lanes and sample local treats; please note that lunch is at your own expense if choosing this excursion.
Machland Plains & Strudengau Gorge Scenic Sailing
Glide from the open Machland floodplains into the snug Strudengau gorge, where the Danube narrows beneath dark, forested hills. Keep watch for castle ruins tucked into rocky outcrops as winter mist lingers over the water.
Once feared for hidden reefs and whirlpools, this reach is now tamed, inviting you to slow the pace and pause for photos and reflection. The play of light and shadow makes a striking counterpoint to the river’s steady current.
Vienna Panoramic Tour & Historic Core
Join a guided panoramic tour along the grand Ringstrasse boulevard, passing the Vienna State Opera, Parliament and museums that proclaim imperial ambition. Hear how the Habsburgs shaped a city of salons, cafés and concert halls.
Continue on foot through cobbled lanes to St Stephen’s Cathedral and the Hofburg complex, former seat of imperial power and home to the Spanish Riding School. Between palaces and pastry counters, Vienna blends ceremony with gemutlichkeit, especially in winter’s golden light.

Settle into the lounge for a live Christmas classical recital, where strings weave familiar carols and waltzes into an elegant programme inspired by Vienna’s musical heritage. The glow of the tree and soft lighting heighten the evening’s poise.
