Additional information

Wander the courtyards of Schonbrunn Palace at the festive Culture & Christmas Market, where artisan stalls cluster beneath imperial facades. Browse handcrafted gifts, sip warming punch, and listen to soft chamber melodies as the baroque palace glows in the crisp afternoon light.

Once the Habsburgs’ summer residence, Schonbrunn pairs grandeur with comfort. After Christmas the market shifts to a New Year theme, yet the aroma of roasted chestnuts, woodcraft and porcelain preserves Vienna’s winter charm in a regal setting.

See Hungary’s capital on a guided tour of Budapest, ascending Castle Hill for sweeping Danube vistas. Admire the lace-like neo-Gothic Hungarian Parliament Building, the fairy-tale turrets of Fisherman’s Bastion, and the Chain Bridge linking Buda’s hills with Pest’s grand boulevards.

Trace layers of Roman ruins, Ottoman baths and fin-de-siècle elegance while winter markets scent the air with cinnamon and paprika. Café windows glow against the river, shaping evocative scenes of Central Europe in the cold season.

Celebrate on board with a lavish Christmas Gala Dinner, set in a candlelit restaurant dressed for the season. Settle into white-linen service as chefs present a seasonal menu pairing Central European flavours with fine desserts and selected wines.

Festive toasts, gentle conversation and the ship’s steady glide create a festive ambience worthy of the occasion—an elegant evening to savour new friendships and the romance of the Danube in winter.

Delight in a live Christmas classical recital performed by a string quartet in the ship’s lounge. Waltzes, pastorales and carols and Viennese waltzes float through the air as glasses clink and city lights drift past the windows.

The intimate lounge setting and rich, resonant strings evoke the salons of imperial Europe, turning the evening into a chamber concert at river’s edge—refined, warm and deeply seasonal.

Enjoy a spirited Hungarian Christmas folklore show on board, where fiddles quicken and dancers whirl to csárdás rhythms. Traditional songs and storytelling reveal winter customs from the Great Plain to Transdanubia.

Bright embroidered costumes, stamping boots and a rousing foot-tapping finale bring Hungary’s festive heritage to life—an uplifting, authentic close to a day on the Danube.

Savour the craft of a traditional Stollen-making demonstration led by the ship’s pastry chef. Watch butter-rich dough, almonds and dried fruit come together as warm spices and citrus perfume the lounge and ribbons of icing sugar dust the golden loaf.

Hear the story of Dresden’s famous Christmas bread and pick up tips for flavour and texture. The festive aromas and cosy setting make a delicious prelude to your winter sailing.

Settle in for a tranquil holiday sail and cruise the Danube between Hungary and Slovakia, where villages, church spires and frosted riverbanks unfold in a soft winter haze. From deck or lounge, admire low sun, plume-topped chimneys and occasional riverside chapels.

As dusk gathers, twinkling village lights mirror on the water while the crew serves warm spiced drinks. The peaceful borderlands offer reflective moments and photographs with a subtle festive glow.

Experience a guided tour of Salzburg, where domes and spires gather below the mighty Hohensalzburg Fortress. Stroll the elegant Getreidegasse, pass Mozart landmarks, and admire the Mirabell Gardens, their statuary and clipped lines edged by frost and mountain air.

In the Old Town, baroque palaces and Cathedral Square set a festive stage for music and nativity scenes. Hear tales of Mozart and “Silent Night,” penned by Salzburg-born Joseph Mohr. Please note: lunch is not included when selecting this excursion.

Take in imperial Vienna on a guided panoramic tour, circling the Ringstrasse past the State Opera, Parliament and Rathaus. Continue on foot through the historic core to St Stephen’s Cathedral and courtyards of the Hofburg, where the Habsburg story lingers in stone and ceremony.

Absorb café aromas, waltz melodies and the soft glow of winter lights along grand boulevards. Your guide weaves together emperors, composers and modern life in a city where culture animates the streetscape.

Drift through one of Europe’s most storied reaches as you cruise the Wachau Valley, a UNESCO-listed landscape of terraced vines, apricot orchards and village spires. From the lounge or deck, watch mist-softened river cliffs and castles pass in silver light and winter earth tones.

Sail onward into the Nibelungengau, a poetic bend of the Danube that inspired medieval legends and Wagner’s music. The rhythm of the ship, chimney smoke and terraced vineyards etched into the hills create serene, camera-ready moments at every turn.

Join a guided walking tour of Linz, tracing elegant streets to the vast Hauptplatz and Trinity Column. Pastel-fronted merchants’ houses and arcaded courtyards reveal the city’s baroque soul, while riverfront views and quiet lanes set a gentle festive mood between church spires.

Hear how a medieval trading hub evolved into a centre of arts and technology. From the hilltop castle to baroque facades and contemporary culture, Linz blends heritage and innovation—an atmospheric winter portrait of Upper Austria.

Visit Austria’s baroque masterpiece as you visit Melk Abbey, set high above the Wachau’s winter vineyards. Walk grand staircases and galleries lined with Habsburg portraits, admire the Emperor’s Gallery and baroque Marble Hall, and take in long river views from terraces wrapped in crisp air.

Step into the ornate library, home to illuminated manuscripts and the scent of old leather, before entering the gilded abbey church glowing with stucco and fresco. Founded as a Benedictine monastery, Melk’s scholarship and music have shaped Wachau culture for nearly a millennium.

Discover Hungary’s spiritual heart as you join a guided tour of the monumental Esztergom Basilica, crowning a bluff above the Danube. Step beneath the soaring neoclassical dome, admire the vast main altar and gleaming chapels, and gaze across the river to Slovakia from terraces washed in crisp winter light.

Hear how the cathedral evolved into the archbishop’s seat, and see the famed treasury of medieval goldsmiths’ work and liturgical art. The Bakócz Chapel’s Renaissance stone carving adds a final flourish to this richly layered encounter with Central Europe’s sacred heritage.
