Lake Lucerne Cruise
Cruise Lake Lucerne on an optional outing and see the shoreline and surrounding mountains from the water. The boat offers a different perspective on the city’s lakeside position and the landscape beyond it.
Lake Lucerne’s winding shape and mountain-framed shores have long made travel by boat part of the region’s character. This relaxed excursion focuses on the scenery rather than a guided city visit. Available at additional cost and bookable on tour.
Vienna Orientation Drive & Historic Centre Tour
Discover Vienna on an orientation drive and Local Specialist-led tour through its historic centre. See the Hofburg Palace, State Opera House and Parliament Building, and explore the streets of the Innere Stadt.
The grand buildings along the Ringstrasse reflect the city’s imperial past, while the Hofburg recalls centuries of Habsburg rule. Your specialist brings context to the architecture and public spaces that give Austria’s capital its distinctive character.
Vienna Christmas Markets
Explore Vienna’s Christmas markets, where illuminated stalls bring seasonal colour to the Austrian capital. Browse handcrafted decorations and festive gifts, and take in the scent of spiced treats against a backdrop of grand city architecture.
Vienna’s Advent markets draw on a long tradition of winter gatherings. Their setting makes the experience as much about the city’s atmosphere as its stalls: lights, music and historic squares offer a distinctly Viennese introduction to the season.
Salzburg Sound of Music Walking Tour
Walk through Salzburg with a Local Specialist to see the Mirabell Gardens and sights featured in the filming of The Sound of Music. The guided route offers a closer look at the city associated with both the film and Mozart.
Baroque facades and Alpine surroundings give Salzburg its recognisable character. Your specialist connects its streets and gardens with their cultural stories, making this more than a tour of familiar screen locations.
Salzburg Christmas Market
Browse Salzburg’s Christmas market amid the city’s historic streets and squares. Look for seasonal crafts and festive foods while the sounds of Advent carry through this Baroque setting.
Salzburg’s compact centre places its market atmosphere close to the landmarks and mountain scenery that define the city. It is a chance to experience Austrian Christmas traditions in the hometown of Mozart, with the architecture itself providing a memorable backdrop.
Munich Advent Traditions & Local Treats
Join a Local Specialist-led exploration of Munich’s old town to uncover Advent customs away from the busiest market stalls. Along the way, taste seasonal treats from small independent businesses and hear about traditions that might otherwise be overlooked.
This MAKE TRAVEL MATTER® experience puts local people and neighbourhood heritage at its centre. Food and stories offer a more personal perspective on Bavaria’s festive season while supporting the businesses that sustain the city’s character.
Munich City Orientation & Marienplatz Christmas Market
Discover central Munich on an orientation with your Travel Director, taking in sights such as the Residenz, State Opera House and Hofbräuhaus. At Marienplatz, admire the neo-Gothic Town Hall and its Glockenspiel before exploring the Christmas market.
Carols, festive lights and a towering Christmas tree give the square its seasonal energy. The surrounding landmarks reveal Munich’s Bavarian royal and civic history, adding depth to the bustle of its market stalls.
Oberammergau Village Visit
Explore Oberammergau, a Bavarian village known for its woodcarvings and painted house facades. Admire the elaborate frescoes depicting local themes and discover the craft traditions visible throughout the village.
Oberammergau is also renowned for its Passion Play, traditionally staged once every ten years. That theatrical heritage, together with its distinctive decorated buildings, gives this Alpine community a cultural identity unlike that of a typical scenic stop.
Innsbruck Christmas Market & Golden Roof
Explore Innsbruck’s Christmas market and look out for the Golden Roof, the city’s landmark balcony with its gilded copper tiles. Among the stalls, sample a Kiachl doughnut for a taste of Tyrolean festive fare.
Innsbruck’s old-town setting places centuries-old buildings against a dramatic mountain backdrop. The market brings local food and seasonal traditions into that setting, offering an Alpine Christmas experience rooted in the capital of Tyrol.
Vaduz Visit & Castle View
Discover Vaduz, Liechtenstein’s capital, and view Vaduz Castle perched above the town. Explore the compact capital and take in its setting beneath the surrounding Alpine slopes.
The castle is the residence of Liechtenstein’s princely family and is viewed from outside rather than visited. Its commanding position makes it a defining sight of the principality, offering a clear sense of Vaduz’s scale and mountain setting.
Vaduz Christmas Market
Experience the Christmas market in Vaduz, where seasonal stalls bring a festive mood to Liechtenstein’s small capital. Browse the market and take in the contrast between its intimate town setting and the Alpine scenery around it.
Vaduz offers a quieter scale than the larger cities on this journey. Its Christmas market provides an opportunity to encounter the principality’s winter atmosphere while exploring a capital closely connected to its surrounding landscape.
Lucerne City Orientation
Explore Lucerne on an orientation with your Travel Director, seeing the Lion Monument, Old Town Hall and Chapel Bridge. The route introduces the historic landmarks of this lakeside Swiss city.
Carved into rock, the Lion Monument commemorates Swiss Guards who died during the French Revolution. Chapel Bridge, with its timber roof and painted panels, reflects Lucerne’s medieval heritage. Together, the sights reveal the history behind the city’s picturesque streets.
Lucerne Christmas Market
Discover Lucerne’s Christmas market in the heart of the city’s Old Town. Browse festive stalls and enjoy the glow of seasonal lights among its historic buildings.
Lucerne’s setting beside its lake and beneath nearby mountains gives its winter celebrations a distinctly Swiss backdrop. The market offers a chance to appreciate local Christmas atmosphere at an easy pace, surrounded by the streets and landmarks that make the Old Town so recognisable.
Meyer Family Farm Visit & Be My Guest Lunch
Visit the Meyer family at Kussnachter Alpenhof near Lucerne to learn how their farm works and meet the animals that live there. Settle into the family dining area for an exclusive home-cooked Be My Guest lunch.
Hosted in a working farm rather than a restaurant, this experience offers a personal introduction to local rural life. Conversation, hospitality and a shared meal bring Swiss traditions into focus, with Christmas cheer adding warmth to the gathering.
Traditional Munich Restaurant Visit
Experience the gemutlich atmosphere of a traditional Munich restaurant on this optional evening out. The German word evokes warmth and conviviality, qualities well suited to a gathering around a table in Bavaria’s capital.
This is an opportunity to extend your exploration of Munich beyond its Christmas market and experience the city’s social side in a local dining setting. Available at additional cost and bookable on tour.
Swiss Mountain-Top Excursion
Join your Travel Director for an optional excursion to a mountain peak near Lucerne. Take in elevated views of the region and experience the crisp air and winter scenery that distinguish this part of Switzerland.
The journey offers a scenic contrast to Lucerne’s streets and lakeside setting, with a perspective shaped by the surrounding Alps. The specific mountain and conditions may vary. Available at additional cost and bookable on tour.
