Christmas in Glorious Yorkshire

After joining the coach, we make our way to our hotel and check in.

Christmas in Glorious Yorkshire

On Christmas Eve we head to the elegant Victorian spa town of Harrogate, located in the heart of scenic Yorkshire. Notable sights include the Royal Pump Room and the Grade II listed Royal Hall, and don’t miss the attractive Montpellier Quarter with its pedestrianised streets lined with 19th-century buildings.

Christmas Day is a chance to relax at our hotel and, of course, indulge in a festive lunch with all the trimmings followed by Christmas cake, tea and coffee. A light buffet dinner is served in the evening.

Christmas in Glorious Yorkshire

We visit historic York, where we can wander the narrow cobbled streets with their distinctive overhanging buildings or spend some time in the city’s beautiful Norman Minster, which boasts some of the finest stained-glass windows in the world. Alternatively, why not take a stroll around the city walls that have stood since Roman times and wrap around the city for 2.5 miles or visit the famous Betty’s tea rooms?

After breakfast, we check out of our hotel and head for home.

On day 2 (Christmas Eve), travel to the elegant spa town of Harrogate and stroll the Montpellier Quarter, where pedestrian lanes reveal chic boutiques, galleries and cafés framed by 19th-century facades. See the Royal Pump Room Museum, once famed for its sulphur springs, and admire the Grade II listed Royal Hall with its gilded Edwardian auditorium. Pause for photos and soak in the festive town atmosphere before returning to the hotel.

Harrogate blossomed in the Victorian era as visitors came to “take the waters,” a legacy still felt in its refined gardens and the ornate Turkish Baths. Between crescents and parks, you’ll sense its Victorian spa heritage and refined social life. Expect to be back by late afternoon to warm up before dinner and the evening’s gentle entertainment.

On day 3 (Christmas Day), enjoy a leisurely breakfast before taking your seat for a traditional Christmas lunch with all the trimmings. Savour roast flavours and seasonal sides, followed by Christmas cake, tea and coffee. As daylight fades, a light evening buffet is served, giving you freedom to graze and chat at your own pace.

The day is designed for relaxation and good company. Settle into the lounges to enjoy a free afternoon, perhaps with a book, a board game, or a short winter stroll in the fresh Yorkshire air. It’s a gentle celebration of British holiday traditions, marked by warm conversation, a cosy setting and time to pause.

On day 4 (Boxing Day), set out for York to wander its cobbled lanes and timber-framed shopfronts, including the Shambles. Follow stretches of the medieval city walls for sweeping views, or make time to step inside York Minster to gaze at its magnificent stained-glass windows (admission not included). You might also pause for photos and reflection by Clifford’s Tower or along the River Ouse.

York’s layers of history unfold at every turn, from Roman Eboracum to Viking Jórvík and its medieval guilds. The city’s stone, brick and glass tell a story of faith, trade and power, best appreciated at a gentle pace with time to explore. Return to the hotel by early evening for dinner and a relaxing close to the day.

Each evening on days 1–4, unwind as the hotel hosts light entertainment in the lounge or bar. Expect a relaxed, sociable mood—perhaps background music or a friendly quiz—giving you time to chat, laugh and soak in the festive spirit with your travelling companions after dinner.

This gentle programme pairs perfectly with after-dinner tea and coffee and the warm glow of Yorkshire hospitality. Settle into a comfortable chair, enjoy a free evening, and let the convivial atmosphere round off your day in a way that feels easy and unhurried.

On day 1, arrive by coach at the Britannia Hotel in Bramhope and settle into your room before dinner. Ease into the festive rhythm as you raise a glass at a welcome drink and meet your fellow travellers in the relaxed café-bar. Take a moment to wander the landscaped grounds or simply unwind in the lounge after your journey.

Nestled between Leeds and the Yorkshire countryside, the hotel makes a comfortable base to enjoy a free evening with after-dinner tea and coffee. The gentle start allows you to get acquainted with the plans for the days ahead while soaking up friendly Yorkshire hospitality and the cosy holiday mood.
