Christmas at Bosworth Hall

After joining the coach, we make our way to our hotel and check in.

Christmas at Bosworth Hall

Our Christmas Eve excursion takes us to the picturesque market town of Stamford, widely regarded as one of the finest stone towns in England, with a variety of 17th and 18th-century stone buildings, secret alleyways peppered with alehouses and no fewer than five medieval parish churches. It’s no wonder that Stamford has formed the backdrop for TV costume drama Middlemarch and the 2005 film adaptation of Pride & Prejudice! Later on, there is the option to attend Midnight Mass for those who wish to join, with mulled wine and mince pies on our return.

Christmas at Bosworth Hall

Christmas Day is a lovely day of celebration as our hotel provides a hearty Christmas lunch with all the trimmings followed by Christmas cake, tea and coffee plus a light buffet dinner in the evening.

Christmas at Bosworth Hall

On Boxing Day, we head to Stratford-upon-Avon, Shakespeare’s birthplace and a busy, attractive Tudor town of timbered buildings and, of course, famous theatres. Fans of the Bard can visit the house in which he was born and there’s a chance for a refreshing riverside stroll before warming up in a cosy café.

After breakfast, we check out of our hotel and head for home.

During our Stratford visit on day 4, you may choose to step inside Shakespeare’s Birthplace on Henley Street. Explore Tudor timber rooms, view artifacts curated by the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust, and meet interpreters who animate daily life in 16th-century Warwickshire.

Link the town’s streets to the household that shaped a literary legacy spanning the globe. This optional visit is at additional cost and bookable on tour, subject to opening hours and availability on the day.

When time allows — perhaps on day 1 after check-in or during the quiet of day 3 — unwind with optional access to the hotel’s leisure facilities. Unwind in the heated indoor pool, ease into the steam room and sauna, or keep the chill at bay with a light session in the gym.

Within the grounds of this historic estate, the wellness spaces offer a restorative counterpoint to wintry excursions and festive dining. This optional experience is at additional cost and payable locally; towels and access are bookable on tour through the hotel team.

On day 3 (Christmas Day), savour a traditional Christmas lunch with all the trimmings at Bosworth Hall. Dine amid the oak-panelled main hall and the glow of the Tudor stone fireplace, then linger over Christmas cake, tea and coffee. As evening settles, a light buffet dinner invites relaxed grazing and conversation with fellow travellers.

Set within 11 acres near Market Bosworth, this 17th-century mansion channels the heritage of the Leicestershire countryside, not far from the site of Bosworth Field. Between courses, soak in the country-house ambience and the unhurried rhythm of the day — a gentle festive pause that lets the season breathe.

After arrival on day 1, raise a welcome drink with fellow travellers as you settle into Bosworth Hall. Dinner flows into after-dinner tea and coffee, the prelude to the hotel’s programme of light evening entertainment.

Each night brings gentle amusements — perhaps festive quizzes, a touch of live music or convivial games — designed to let you enjoy a free evening without stepping back into the winter chill. The historic setting lends warmth and character, with the mansion’s period features amplifying the cosy, fireside atmosphere.

On day 4 (Boxing Day), travel to Stratford-upon-Avon, where Shakespeare’s Birthplace, the Royal Shakespeare Theatre and timbered streets frame a leisurely visit. Stroll the lawns of Bancroft Gardens, follow the Avon towards Clopton Bridge, and pause for photos and reflection by the water.

Steeped in the Bard’s legacy, this Tudor market town links guildhall classrooms with Holy Trinity Church, where Shakespeare is laid to rest. Enjoy time to browse bookshops and antiques, soak in the riverside atmosphere, and perhaps warm up in a café before our coach returns to Bosworth Hall.

Late on day 2, those who wish may attend Midnight Mass at a local church in Market Bosworth, where carols by candlelight and readings mark the turn to Christmas Day. Afterwards, return to the hotel for mulled wine and mince pies in the warmth of the lounge.

The parish church of St Peter’s reflects centuries of village life — a serene setting to join residents in a communal celebration rich with tradition. This optional experience is bookable on tour; there is typically no set charge, although a small voluntary donation to the church is customary.

On day 2 (Christmas Eve), join an included excursion to Stamford, a stone-built market town of mellow facades and narrow lanes. Wander by the soaring spire of St Mary’s Church, the 15th-century almshouses of Browne’s Hospital and the graceful arches over the River Welland. There’s time to browse independent shops, slip into a traditional pub, and pause for photos and reflection around the Market Place and Town Bridge.

Famed as a period-film backdrop for Middlemarch and Pride & Prejudice, Stamford preserves a rare cluster of five medieval parish churches alongside elegant 18th-century coaching inns. Learn how wool wealth shaped its streets and spot chiselled stone details on warm, honey-coloured fronts. We return to Bosworth Hall by late afternoon to enjoy a free evening in festive comfort.
