Bramwell Station Outback Stay
Stay at Bramwell Station, described as Australia’s northernmost cattle station, and experience an overnight stop rooted in Cape York’s pastoral country. Its remote setting offers a sense of the distances and conditions that define travel on the peninsula.
Rather than a conventional town hotel, the station provides an opportunity to soak in the outback atmosphere of a working cattle property. The stay is distinctive for its setting and station heritage; no guided cattle-station activities are specified.

Daintree Rainforest & Cape Tribulation
Explore the World Heritage-listed Daintree Rainforest and the coastal landscape of Cape Tribulation, where dense tropical vegetation reaches towards the Coral Sea. Look for the changing textures of the forest, from towering trees to tangled vines, as the journey carries you through the Wet Tropics of Queensland.
This is one of the rare places where two World Heritage areas meet: the Wet Tropics on land and the Great Barrier Reef offshore. The rainforest-meets-reef setting makes Cape Tribulation a distinctive introduction to Far North Queensland.
Bloomfield Track, Lion’s Den Hotel & Black Mountain
Travel the rugged 4WD Bloomfield Track between Cape Tribulation and Cooktown, weather permitting. This remote coastal route crosses the Bloomfield River near Wujal Wujal and passes through a landscape of rainforest, creeks and steep country.
Call at the historic Lion’s Den Hotel, a long-standing meeting place for travellers, and encounter Black Mountain, or Kalkajaka. Its dark jumble of granite boulders stands in sharp contrast to the surrounding greenery and has long been associated with local stories.
Cooktown Historical Tour
Discover Cooktown on a guided tour focused on the town’s layered history. At the mouth of the Endeavour River, this remote community is closely associated with James Cook’s 1770 stay, when the damaged Endeavour was repaired nearby.
Learn how the gold rush later shaped Cooktown as a port and frontier town, while recognising that Aboriginal peoples’ connections to this country reach back far further. The tour gives context to the streets and setting of a place that has played several distinct roles in Australian history.
Rinyirru (Lakefield) National Park Wetlands
Explore Rinyirru (Lakefield) National Park, weather permitting, and take in its expansive wetlands and waterlily-covered billabongs. Keep watch for birds around the waterways as the tour travels through one of Queensland’s largest national parks.
Rinyirru’s floodplains and seasonal waterholes support a rich variety of wildlife in a landscape that changes markedly with the rains. Its scale, open skies and concentration of birdlife reveal a different side of Cape York from the coastal rainforest.
Fruit Bat Falls Swimming Stop
Swim in the clear water at Fruit Bat Falls, a welcome place to cool off amid Cape York’s remote bushland. Spend time splashing, floating or relaxing beside the water at this natural stop near the Old Telegraph Track.
The falls bring a gentler pause to a journey known for rough roads and river crossings. Flowing water, rock ledges and surrounding greenery give the swimming hole its appeal, while the tour specifically identifies this waterhole as suitable for a refreshing dip.
Cape York Northern Tip
Stand at the northernmost tip of mainland Australia and look across the Torres Strait towards its scattered islands. The journey to Cape York makes this far-flung point a destination in its own right, with an opportunity to take in the coastline and mark your arrival.
Only water separates the peninsula from Papua New Guinea. That geography gives the tip its particular significance: it is both the end of a demanding overland route and a vantage point on the island-studded strait beyond.
Somerset Historic Site & Anchorage Beach
Visit Somerset’s colonial-era remains on Cape York, where masonry, old cannons and graves recall a settlement established in the 1860s. Among the surviving headstones are those of Frank Jardine and his wife.
Share lunch at palm-fringed Anchorage Beach overlooking the Albany Passage. The contrast between the quiet shoreline and Somerset’s weathered remnants offers two perspectives on this remote coast: its enduring natural setting and the traces of a short-lived colonial outpost.
Thursday Island Guided Tour
Join a guided tour of Thursday Island, the administrative centre of the Torres Strait Islands. Explore an island community shaped by its maritime setting and learn about the culture and history of the Strait.
Thursday Island offers a perspective distinct from mainland Cape York, with Torres Strait Islander heritage at the heart of its identity. Its position among the islands also brings the region’s connections across the sea into focus.
