Las Vegas Welcome Dinner
Meet your Travel Director and fellow travellers over a welcome dinner in Las Vegas. It is a hosted opportunity to get acquainted with the group and hear about the landscapes and experiences that define this California national parks journey.
Gathering in the city known for its illuminated Strip makes for a lively contrast with the deserts, alpine lakes and sequoia forests on the tour. The dinner is included as a shared group experience, rather than simply a meal on your own.
Las Vegas High Roller Observation Wheel
Ride the High Roller for a 30-minute circuit above the Las Vegas Strip. Its enclosed cabins rise to 550 feet, offering 360-degree views of the neon-lit resorts and the city grid stretching towards the surrounding desert.
The observation wheel provides a distinctive way to take in Las Vegas at night: from above, the Strip’s dense concentration of lights stands out against the dark Mojave landscape. Your ride is included in the tour.
Death Valley Guided Exploration: Zabriskie Point & Badwater Basin
Explore Death Valley National Park on a guided visit to two of its most striking sites. Look across the folded, eroded badlands from Zabriskie Point, and descend to Badwater Basin, where salt flats mark the lowest point in North America.
Hear how geology and extreme heat have shaped this vast desert landscape. The contrast between sculpted hills and the basin’s pale salt crust reveals why Death Valley is a place of remarkable variety, despite its stark appearance.
Mammoth Mountain Scenic Gondola & Summit Breakfast
Ascend Mammoth Mountain by scenic gondola for wide views across the eastern Sierra Nevada. At the summit, enjoy breakfast with a mountain panorama, surrounded by a landscape of high peaks and volcanic terrain.
This ticketed experience pairs an alpine ascent with a meal in an unusually elevated setting. Gondola operation is seasonal and weather-dependent, so the mountain experience is subject to conditions during your visit.
June Lake Loop Scenic Drive
Travel the June Lake Loop, a winding scenic route through the eastern Sierra Nevada. Watch for June Lake’s bright blue water amid mountain slopes, with aspens and willows adding colour along the road.
The loop offers a close look at the Mammoth Lakes region’s alpine character. Its combination of lakeshore views and forested mountain scenery makes the drive an experience in its own right, rather than simply a route between destinations.
Tioga Pass & Yosemite High Country Scenic Drive
Cross Tioga Pass on a seasonal scenic drive into Yosemite National Park. The high-country route passes Tenaya Lake and Tuolumne Meadows, revealing granite scenery, open meadows and a quieter alpine side of the park.
At more than 9,000 feet, Tioga Pass offers a striking contrast with Yosemite Valley’s lower elevations. Snow and weather can close the road, typically from mid-October to late May; when that happens, the tour enters Yosemite by an alternative route and sightseeing changes.
Yosemite Climber & Conservation Experience
Meet a climber and naturalist in Yosemite National Park for a hosted encounter with the culture of climbing. Hear first-hand stories, see photographs and examine old and new gear while learning what it takes to climb Yosemite’s granite walls.
Presented through the Yosemite Conservancy, the experience also explores work to improve trails, restore habitat and protect wildlife. It connects the human history of climbing with efforts to care for the park’s ecosystems and inspire future nature-lovers.
Sierra Nevada Fire Ecology Talk & Lunch with Dan Webster
Join naturalist Dan Webster for a hosted talk and lunch focused on the Sierra Nevada’s forests. Learn how fire shapes these ecosystems, what it means for the future of the landscape, and how local natural history informs the way people understand it.
The shared lunch gives you time to ask Dan questions and hear more of his stories about life in the region. This Be My Guest experience adds a personal perspective to the forests seen throughout the tour.
Kings Canyon National Park & General Grant Tree
Visit Kings Canyon National Park to walk among giant sequoias and see the General Grant Tree. Its immense trunk and high-reaching boughs give a sense of the scale that has made this grove a celebrated part of the Sierra Nevada.
Take in a bird’s-eye view of Kings Canyon as part of the park visit. Together, the forest and canyon scenery show two sides of this protected landscape: ancient trees rooted in the mountains and the deep terrain around them.
Sequoia’s Giant Forest, General Sherman Tree & Big Trees Trail
Walk beneath the sequoia canopy in Sequoia National Park to see the General Sherman Tree, the world’s largest living tree by volume. Visit the Giant Forest Museum to learn about the grove, and follow the Big Trees Trail for another close-up view of these monumental trunks.
The walk places you among living trees that have stood for centuries. Museum interpretation adds context to their natural history, while the trail offers time to appreciate the scale and stillness of the forest on foot.
Sequoia National Park Guided Stargazing
Explore the night sky with a Local Specialist in Sequoia National Park. Spend an hour identifying constellations, planets and galaxies while hearing stories and current astronomical insights beneath a sky far removed from the glare of a large city.
When conditions are clear, the Milky Way stretches across the Sierra sky. The guided experience also touches on the history of human space exploration, bringing both scientific perspective and a sense of wonder to the park after dark.
Hollywood Visit & Walk of Fame
Visit Hollywood in Los Angeles and look for familiar names among the stars of the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The visit offers a chance to explore one of the city’s best-known entertainment landmarks and find a favourite performer’s star.
Set into the pavements of Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street, the stars honour figures from film, television, music and other branches of entertainment. It is a street-level encounter with the industry that helped shape Los Angeles’s global identity.
California Farewell Dinner
Gather with your Travel Director and fellow travellers for an included farewell dinner in Los Angeles. The hosted meal provides a shared setting to reflect on the tour’s deserts, Sierra Nevada mountains and giant sequoia groves.
Rather than dining independently, you can exchange favourite moments with the people who experienced these landscapes alongside you. It is a sociable close to the group journey, set in Southern California’s largest city.
