Dorchester Heritage Visit & Free Time
On day 2, you’ll travel by coach to Dorchester, a compact county town set by the River Frome and the Dorset Downs. Your driver drops you centrally so you can enjoy free time to wander its market streets, pop into independent shops and browse the post-Christmas sales. Warm up in a cosy café or stroll to Borough Gardens for winter colour and fresh air.
History is everywhere: Dorchester grew from Roman Durnovaria and still preserves a unique Roman Town House. The excellent Dorset Museum explores local archaeology and Thomas Hardy’s Wessex, while families may prefer the hands-on Dinosaur Museum (entrances at own expense). Use your time to pause for photos and reflection before rejoining the coach for the return to Bournemouth.
Swanage Seaside Promenade & Poole Old Town
On day 3, begin by the sea in Swanage, where you’ll arrive in Swanage to amble the seaside promenade, admire the Victorian pier and photograph the colourful beach huts. Wrap up for a brisk stroll on the sand or along the esplanade with a warming drink in hand. Set within the Purbeck Hills on the Jurassic Coast UNESCO World Heritage Site, the town retains the easy charm of a late-Victorian resort.
In the afternoon, we continue to Poole for its lively quayside and vast natural harbour, among the world’s largest. With time at leisure, stroll the historic Old Town, note Georgian merchants’ houses and the Custom House, and browse waterside shops; look across to Brownsea Island, birthplace of the Scouting movement. As light softens, pause for photos and reflection over the harbour before meeting the coach for Bournemouth.
Bournemouth Evenings: Light Entertainment & 2-for-1 Bar
On the evenings of days 1–3, return to the hotel for light entertainment in the lounge — perhaps a singer, quiz or informal music — the ideal time to meet your fellow travellers and share the day’s highlights. Settle into comfy seating, order a favourite drink and chat with your coach companions. The relaxed setting keeps the festive mood going without leaving the hotel.
Between 6pm and 9pm a 2 for 1 bar (6pm–9pm) operates on selected drinks, perfect for a sociable toast to Twixmas. You’re free to linger or retire early — enjoy a free evening and soak in the seaside atmosphere before another day’s Dorset discoveries.
