Additional information
Nairobi National Park Game Drive
Explore Nairobi National Park by overland vehicle, scanning waterholes and open grassland for wildlife with the city skyline in the distance. The drive offers a chance to see how closely the Kenyan capital and protected habitat sit alongside one another.
That urban backdrop distinguishes this reserve from the country’s more remote safari landscapes. Wildlife sightings vary, but the contrast between animals and high-rises makes a striking photographic opportunity. This optional game drive is at additional cost, bookable on tour.
Murchison Falls Night Game Drive
Head into Murchison Falls National Park after dark on a night game drive. Watch and listen for wildlife in a landscape that feels markedly different once daylight fades; sightings depend on animal activity and conditions.
This drive adds a nocturnal perspective to the park’s daytime safaris. The limited light focuses attention on sounds and sudden movement, offering a chance to appreciate how the bush changes through the night.
Maasai Village Cultural Visit
Visit a Maasai village near the Mara to meet community members and learn about traditions they choose to share. The experience offers an opportunity to ask questions and hear about local life from the people who live it.
The Maasai have a longstanding connection to the grasslands of southern Kenya and northern Tanzania. A respectful, hosted visit adds a human perspective to time spent in the wildlife reserve. This optional experience is at additional cost, bookable on tour.
Bwindi Mountain Gorilla Trek
Follow local guides and trackers into Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in search of a wild mountain gorilla family. The forest trek varies in length and difficulty according to where the gorillas are moving. Once located, you’ll spend one hour observing them as they feed, rest and interact.
Bwindi’s steep, densely wooded terrain is part of what makes this encounter so distinctive. Watching gorillas at home in the forest offers a close view of one of the world’s most threatened great apes.
Kalinzu Forest Chimpanzee Trek
Hike Kalinzu Forest with local guides, listening for chimpanzee calls and scanning the canopy for movement. The trails offer a chance to see wild chimps climbing and foraging, alongside monkeys and some of the forest’s abundant birdlife. Sightings depend on where the animals roam.
This is a different kind of primate encounter from Bwindi: chimpanzees are often heard before they appear, and following their calls brings the sounds and layers of Uganda’s forest into focus.
Queen Elizabeth National Park Wildlife Drive
Travel through Queen Elizabeth National Park on a transit game drive, watching the savannah for elephants, buffalo and antelope. Stops for wildlife sightings and photographs make this more than a drive between destinations; big cats are possible, though never guaranteed.
The park’s open grasslands and distant crater-lake scenery mark a striking change from southwest Uganda’s forests. Keep your camera ready for animals against one of the country’s best-known wildlife landscapes.
Equator Photo Stop near Kikorongo
Stand at the Equator near Kikorongo and take the classic photograph with a foot in each hemisphere. This marked line makes a brief but memorable stop while travelling through western Uganda’s national-park country.
The Equator circles the globe at zero degrees latitude, dividing the Northern and Southern hemispheres. Its roadside marker turns an invisible geographical boundary into a tangible moment to share with your fellow travellers.
Murchison Falls National Park Transit Game Drive
Enter Murchison Falls National Park on a wildlife-spotting drive across the reserve. Look out for giraffes, elephants, buffalo, antelope, warthogs and monkeys as you travel towards your accommodation. What you see will depend on the movement of the animals.
Uganda’s largest national park brings together broad savannah, woodland and the Nile. This drive provides an introduction to its varied habitats and a first chance to spot the wildlife that inhabits them.
Murchison Falls Sunrise Game Drive
Search Murchison Falls National Park at sunrise for lions, elephants, giraffes and antelope, with a chance of spotting the more elusive leopard. The cooler early hours are a rewarding time to watch for movement across the park’s grasslands.
Morning light reveals the textures of this Nile-side landscape while guides and fellow travellers scan for tracks and wildlife. No sighting is certain, but every drive offers a fresh view of animals in their natural habitat.
Nile Cruise to the Base of Murchison Falls
Cruise the Nile towards the base of Murchison Falls, watching the banks for hippos, crocodiles and birdlife. The river offers a different perspective on the national park, with wildlife gathering in and around the water.
At the falls, the Nile is forced through a narrow rocky gap before plunging downstream. Approaching by boat lets you take in the scale of the river and the force of the cascade from below, conditions permitting.
Top of Murchison Falls Viewpoint
Visit the top of Murchison Falls for a close view of the Nile rushing through its narrow gorge. Pause at the viewpoints to watch the water surge over the rock and photograph the falls from above.
This vantage point shows why the waterfall is such a defining feature of Uganda’s largest national park. The sound and spray make the river’s power tangible in a way that distant views cannot.
Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary Tracking Walk
Track rhinos on foot with experienced rangers at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary. Walk through the bush to observe these large animals from a safe distance and learn about the work protecting them and rebuilding Uganda’s rhino population.
Seeing rhinos without the barrier of a vehicle makes their size and presence especially vivid. Ziwa plays a significant role in rhino conservation in a country where the species disappeared from the wild for decades.
Mirror of Hope Visit in Kibera
Visit Mirror of Hope in Nairobi’s Kibera neighbourhood to meet the team and learn about its work with local women and children. Hear directly about the community initiatives taking place and the people behind them.
This hosted visit offers a perspective on Nairobi beyond its safari gateway role. Approach it as an opportunity to listen and engage respectfully with a community-led organisation, rather than as a sightseeing stop.
Maasai Mara Game Drive with Picnic Lunch
Explore the Maasai Mara on an extended game drive, searching its grassy plains for lions, cheetahs, elephants, zebras and other wildlife. A picnic lunch in the reserve keeps you immersed in the landscape while you continue looking for animals across the day.
The Mara is known for its open horizons and rich predator populations. During the right season, migrating wildebeest and zebra may also be present, although their movements and all wildlife sightings are unpredictable.
Amboseli Wildlife Game Drives
Search Amboseli’s plains on game drives for elephants and other wildlife, with an early outing offering another chance to spot the park’s famous herds. Keep watch for exceptionally large-tusked elephants and, when skies are clear, views of Mount Kilimanjaro beyond the savannah.
Amboseli’s open terrain makes wildlife viewing especially compelling. The mountain lies across the border in Tanzania, providing a distinctive backdrop when cloud and weather conditions allow.
Jinja Nile White-Water Rafting
Raft the Nile’s white-water rapids near Jinja for an active way to experience Uganda’s renowned adventure hub. Paddling through moving water offers a markedly different morning from watching the river from shore; activity conditions and suitability should be checked with the operator.
Jinja sits beside the Nile near its outflow from Lake Victoria. This is an optional experience at additional cost, bookable on tour, for travellers who want a more adrenaline-focused river outing.
Jinja Source of the Nile Boat Cruise
Take a boat cruise to the Source of the Nile near Jinja for a gentler way to spend time on the water. Watch the riverside scenery and take in the setting where the Nile flows out of Lake Victoria.
Jinja’s connection to the river has shaped its identity as a destination for both sightseeing and adventure. This relaxed cruise is an optional experience at additional cost, bookable on tour, as an alternative to white-water rafting.
Sheldrick Elephant Nursery Visit
Visit the Sheldrick elephant nursery in Nairobi for a chance to watch young elephants play and bathe while hearing about their care and recovery. The visit centres on the rehabilitation work being done for orphaned elephants.
Seeing the elephants alongside the stories of their rescue gives this experience a clear conservation focus. Visits depend on availability and the nursery’s arrangements. It is an optional experience at additional cost, bookable on tour.
Additional Maasai Mara Game Drive
Opt for another game drive in the Maasai Mara to extend your time searching the reserve’s plains and rolling hills. A fresh outing brings new light, changing animal movement and another opportunity to look for predators and grazing herds.
Wildlife encounters are never repeat performances: even familiar stretches of savannah can reveal something different on a return visit. This additional drive is optional, at additional cost and bookable on tour.
Sagana White-Water Rafting
Try white-water rafting in Sagana, one of several outdoor activities available from the riverside adventure base. Working with your rafting crew on moving water makes this an active choice for travellers keen to get out on the river.
Sagana’s river setting gives the experience its appeal, with conditions shaping each outing. Check locally for activity details and suitability. Rafting is optional, at additional cost and bookable on tour.
Sagana Rock Climbing
Choose a rock-climbing activity in Sagana for a hands-on challenge at the riverside adventure base. Climbing shifts the focus from wildlife watching to movement, balance and the satisfaction of working your way upwards.
This is one of the activities available for travellers who want an active day in central Kenya. Ask the local operator about the climbing setup, equipment and suitability. The experience is optional, at additional cost and bookable on tour.
Sagana Archery
Try archery at Sagana’s adventure base and put your focus and aim to the test. It offers a land-based activity for travellers looking for something different from the area’s river adventures.
Set beside Sagana’s outdoor activity hub, archery can be enjoyed as a distinct challenge rather than a sightseeing excursion. Check locally for session details and any participation requirements. This optional experience is at additional cost and bookable on tour.
Sagana Ziplining
Opt for ziplining in Sagana for a short burst of speed at the riverside adventure base. The activity offers an aerial perspective and a different sort of thrill from rafting or climbing.
Sagana’s range of outdoor pursuits lets travellers choose the level and style of adventure that suits them. Ask the local operator about the route and participation requirements before booking. Ziplining is optional, at additional cost and bookable on tour.
