Additional information

Explore Nairobi National Park on an overland-truck game drive, watching for wildlife around its grasslands and waterholes. The sight of animals against Nairobi’s distant cityscape gives this safari an unusual urban edge.

The park protects savannah immediately beside Kenya’s capital, making its contrast of wild habitat and skyline its defining feature. This is an optional experience at additional cost, bookable on tour; wildlife sightings depend on conditions and animal movements.

View Murchison Falls from above and watch the Nile press through a narrow gorge before dropping into the river below. The viewpoints reveal the force of the water in a way that differs sharply from the boat-level approach.

Pause for photographs and take in the roar, movement and spray at one of Uganda’s defining natural landmarks. It is a focused scenic visit, offering a close look at the feature that gives the national park its name.

Trek with local guides and trackers through Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in search of a wild mountain gorilla family. Forest paths can be steep and muddy, and the length of the trek depends on where the gorillas are moving.

Once the family is found, spend one hour observing the gorillas as they feed, rest and interact. Seeing these endangered primates in their forest habitat is a rare encounter shaped by careful conservation.

Follow local guides through Kalinzu Forest on trails beneath its dense canopy, listening for chimpanzee calls and watching for movement in the branches. Sightings depend on the movements of these wild primates, making the search part of the experience.

Kalinzu is also home to monkeys and abundant birdlife. A guided walk here reveals a different side of Uganda’s wildlife: the sounds, shifting light and close detail of a living tropical forest.

Watch for wildlife while travelling through Queen Elizabeth National Park, with stops for animal sightings and photographs along the way. Elephants, buffalo and antelope may appear against the park’s open savannah and varied landscapes.

This is a transit game drive rather than a dedicated full-day safari, but the route still offers a chance to experience one of Uganda’s best-known protected areas. Keep your camera ready: wild animals set their own schedule.

Stand at the Equator near Kikorongo and take a photograph at the line marking the division between Earth’s northern and southern hemispheres. It is a simple, memorable landmark amid the landscapes of western Uganda.

The stop offers a moment to consider the geography behind the journey: at zero degrees latitude, you can place a foot in each hemisphere. This is a brief landmark visit, not a guided scientific demonstration.

Look for animals on a transit game drive through Murchison Falls National Park, Uganda’s largest national park. Giraffes, elephants, buffalo and antelope are among the wildlife to watch for across its grassland and bush.

The drive is part of the journey through the reserve, with the chance to pause for sightings. It offers a first look at a landscape shaped by the Nile, where open plains contrast with the river’s greener banks.

Head out on a sunrise game drive when Murchison Falls National Park is stirring. Search for lions, elephants, giraffes and antelope in the early light, with the possibility of spotting a more elusive leopard.

Morning is a compelling time to explore the park’s savannah: cooler temperatures can bring wildlife into view, while low sunlight picks out the shapes of the grassland. Sightings are never guaranteed, and that uncertainty is part of a genuine safari.

Cruise the Nile towards the base of Murchison Falls, watching the riverbanks for hippos, crocodiles and birds. The boat offers a water-level perspective on the wildlife and scenery of Uganda’s largest national park.

At the falls, the Nile is forced through a narrow rocky gorge before plunging downstream. Approaching by river makes the scale of that change in the landscape especially vivid, with the sound and spray of the falls ahead.

Search for wildlife after dark on a night game drive through Murchison Falls National Park. The bush feels different once daylight fades, with sounds carrying across the landscape and animal sightings emerging from the darkness.

This drive adds a distinct perspective to the park’s daytime safaris, offering a chance to look for species and behaviour that may be harder to see in bright sun. As on any game drive, encounters depend on wild animals’ movements.

Track rhinos on foot with experienced rangers at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary in Uganda. Walk through the bush, follow your guides’ instructions and observe the animals from a safe distance if they are located.

Ziwa’s conservation work is helping restore rhinos to a country where they had disappeared from the wild. The ranger-led encounter brings that effort into focus, pairing the excitement of seeing these large animals with insight into their protection.

Visit Mirror of Hope in Nairobi’s Kibera neighbourhood and meet people involved in its work with local women and children. Hear directly about the initiatives they lead and the community they serve.

This organised visit places local voices at the centre of the experience. Rather than treating Kibera as a sightseeing backdrop, it offers an opportunity to learn about the organisation’s work and the people shaping change within their neighbourhood.

Explore the Maasai Mara on a full-day game drive, scanning its grassy plains and rolling hills for lions, cheetahs, elephants, zebras and other wildlife. A picnic lunch in the reserve keeps the focus on the landscape and its animals.

The Mara is part of a vast East African ecosystem. At certain times of year, travellers may also have a chance to see the Great Migration, though its timing and wildlife sightings cannot be guaranteed.

Search for elephants and other wildlife on game drives in Amboseli, including an early outing when the park is waking. Its open plains offer a chance to spot large elephant herds, including some of the region’s remarkable long-tusked animals.

On clear days, Mount Kilimanjaro rises beyond the savannah, creating Amboseli’s distinctive wildlife backdrop. Cloud cover and animal movements vary, but the combination of wide horizons, elephant country and the mountain’s presence makes these drives unlike the forest treks elsewhere on the tour.

Raft the Nile’s white-water rapids near Jinja for a more active way to experience Uganda’s riverside adventure hub. Paddle with your rafting crew and feel the shift between calmer water and fast-moving rapids.

Jinja sits near the source of the Nile, giving this river adventure a distinctive setting. This is an optional experience at additional cost, bookable on tour; it is an alternative to the more relaxed Source of the Nile boat cruise.

Take a boat cruise to the Source of the Nile near Jinja, choosing a gentler way to spend time on the river. From the water, take in the green banks and the broad river landscape around this celebrated geographical landmark.

The outing offers a contrast to Jinja’s white-water adventures, with room to appreciate the river’s setting at an easier pace. This is an optional experience at additional cost, bookable on tour, offered as a choice instead of rafting.

Visit the Sheldrick elephant nursery in Nairobi for a chance to watch young elephants play and bathe. Hear about their individual stories and the care involved in helping orphaned elephants recover.

The nursery’s rehabilitation work connects a close-up encounter with the wider challenge of elephant conservation in Kenya. This is an optional experience at additional cost, bookable on tour; access is subject to availability and the nursery’s visitor arrangements.

Visit a Maasai village near the Maasai Mara and meet community members who share aspects of their traditions and daily life. The hosted encounter offers a cultural perspective alongside the region’s wildlife-focused experiences.

Maasai communities have long-standing ties to the landscapes surrounding the reserve. Listening to local people provides a more grounded understanding of that connection than a game drive alone. This is an optional experience at additional cost, bookable on tour.

Choose another game drive in the Maasai Mara for extra time to search its grasslands for predators, grazing herds and birdlife. A further outing gives keen wildlife watchers another opportunity to observe animals whose whereabouts change throughout the day.

Light, weather and animal movement make every drive different, even in the same reserve. This additional safari is an optional experience at additional cost, bookable on tour, separate from the included full-day Mara game drive.

Opt for a white-water rafting adventure in Sagana, where river activities bring an energetic change of pace to the safari-focused journey. Work together on the water as the route moves between flowing stretches and rapids.

Sagana’s riverside setting makes it a base for outdoor adventure in central Kenya. This is an optional experience at additional cost, bookable on tour; activity arrangements and suitability should be confirmed with the tour team.

Try rock climbing at the Sagana adventure base for a hands-on challenge away from the safari vehicle. Focus on footholds, balance and the route ahead as you take part in one of the area’s offered outdoor activities.

The riverside setting gives the climb a distinctly outdoors feel, while the activity offers a different way to engage with central Kenya’s landscape. This is an optional experience at additional cost, bookable on tour; confirm the available climbing arrangements locally.

Test your aim with archery in Sagana, concentrating on stance, focus and each shot. It is a more measured alternative to the riverside base’s faster-paced rafting and ziplining options.

The activity offers a chance to try a practical skill in an outdoor setting and compare your progress from one attempt to the next. This is an optional experience at additional cost, bookable on tour; check the session arrangements with the tour team.

Try ziplining at Sagana’s adventure base for a brief burst of speed and a different perspective on the outdoor setting. The ride offers an active option for travellers who want to add something beyond rafting, climbing or archery.

Sagana’s collection of adventure activities makes it easy to choose the kind of challenge that suits you. Ziplining is an optional experience at additional cost, bookable on tour; confirm availability and participation requirements with the tour team.
