Additional information

Join rangers at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary to track rhinos on foot across bush grasslands. A safety and conservation briefing sets the scene before you approach these immense, surprisingly quiet grazers to a respectful distance for unhurried observation and photography.

Ziwa protects southern white rhinos—wiped out in Uganda in the 1980s—and leads their path to future reintroduction in national parks. Along the way, spot antelope and rich birdlife while learning about anti-poaching measures, monitoring and community partnerships sustaining this comeback story.

Answer the river’s call and white-water raft the Nile below Lake Victoria, bouncing through powerful Grade IV–V rapids with warm equatorial spray in your face. Top-tier gear, professional river guides and swift safety kayakers keep the adventure dialed to thrilling and secure.

Between surges, drift past lush riverbanks and islands alive with birdsong. Choose half-day or full-day runs depending on water levels and confidence. This experience is at additional cost and bookable on tour; photos and videos are typically available for purchase afterward.

Opt for a gentler pace and cruise to the Source of the Nile, gliding from Lake Victoria onto the river’s headwaters. Watch for pied kingfishers, cormorants and fish eagles along bird-rich riverbanks as local guides share stories of exploration and river lore.

Float to the Source of the Nile marker near Jinja and take in the easy rhythms of life on the water—fishing skiffs, papyrus stands, soft evening light. This experience is at additional cost and bookable on tour, perfect for relaxed photography and close-up nature viewing.

Experience Uganda’s largest reserve across multiple prime windows as you join ranger-led game drives on entry, at the golden hours at dawn, and after dark. Scan Borassus-dotted plains for giraffe, elephant, buffalo and antelope, with a chance of lion or elusive leopard.

As evening settles, an authorized night game drive reveals a different cast—hyena, civet, bush babies—caught by spotlight scanning the savannah. Guides share insights on behavior, habitat and conservation while the Nile’s floodplains and sweeping grasslands set a timeless safari stage.

Cruise the Victoria Nile upriver past palm-lined banks alive with birds to the base of Murchison Falls. Watch pods of hippo and Nile crocodile basking as fish eagles call overhead, then feel the spray as the river rears into a thundering plume.

Cap the experience from above as you step to the top of the falls, where the Nile is forced through a seven-metre cleft into the roaring Devil’s Cauldron. Rainbows arc in the mist and the power of the river is visceral at this dramatic escarpment viewpoint.

Explore Kalinzu Forest on foot with local experts and follow local trackers beneath towering figs and mahoganies. Tune into the forest’s soundtrack—leaf-rustle, wingbeats, and the electrifying call of chimp pant-hoots—as you search for wild chimpanzees moving through the canopy.

Set in the Rift Valley foothills, Kalinzu shelters diverse primates and prolific birdlife. With patient listening and sharp eyes, you may witness grooming on a branch or a swift arboreal chase, while guides interpret behavior and ecology amid rustling canopies and dappled forest light.

Traverse classic East African savannah as you roll through Queen Elizabeth National Park, scanning acacia flats and crater-scarred plains for elephants, buffalo, Uganda kob and warthog. This overland sector doubles as a game drive, with unhurried stops to pause for photos and reflection.

With the hazy outlines of the Rwenzori Mountains framing the horizon, guides help spot wildlife clusters and explain seasonal movements. Keep your camera ready—open vistas and meandering herds can deliver surprise sightings, including the park’s stealthy big cats when luck runs high.

Visit the iconic Uganda Equator line near Kikorongo for a moment that’s part geography lesson, part travel rite. Plant your feet astride the globe and stand with one foot in each hemisphere, a playful, must-snap marker of your journey across Africa.

Signboards and local displays outline latitude, distances and climate differences across the line. Browse small craft stalls, swap cameras with fellow travelers and pause for photos and reflection before the road continues into wide-open savannah country.

Discover one of Africa’s most profound wildlife encounters as you venture deep into Bwindi Impenetrable National Park with expert rangers and trackers. Navigate vine-tangled trails and steep, forested slopes to spend one hour with a mountain gorilla family in their mist-shrouded, UNESCO World Heritage Site home.

Learn how the strict viewing rules protect these critically endangered primates while trackers read signs—fresh nests, snapped stems, prints—to locate them. The reward is intimate observation of feeding, grooming and play in the whispered forest quiet, a rare window into complex social bonds and raw, untamed wilderness.
