Frankfurt Old Town Orientation
Walk through Frankfurt’s historic centre with your Travel Director, exploring Romerberg and the streets around its centuries-old town hall. See how the city’s old trading heart contrasts with the towers of its modern financial district.
Frankfurt was a meeting place for merchants and a setting for imperial ceremonies within the Holy Roman Empire. This orientation brings those layers of history into view in a city often known primarily for its skyline.
Frankfurt Welcome Reception
Meet your Travel Director and fellow travellers at a welcome reception in Frankfurt. Share a light dinner and welcome drink while getting to know the people who will accompany you around Germany.
It is a hosted introduction rather than a routine hotel meal: a chance to exchange travel interests and settle into the group before exploring the country’s river valleys, historic towns and major cities.
Rhine River Scenic Cruise
Cruise the Rhine River past terraced vineyards, riverside villages and castle ruins perched above the water. Look out for the Lorelei Rock, a landmark wrapped in tales of an enchantress whose song lured sailors into danger.
The river corridor has carried trade and travellers for centuries. From the water, its steep slopes and hilltop fortifications reveal why this stretch of the Rhine has such a strong place in German history and folklore.
Rhineland Be My Guest Lunch
Enjoy a hosted lunch overlooking the Rhine Valley and hear stories of the knights, rival lords and local legends associated with its hilltop castles. The meal offers time to take in the river landscape from a different perspective.
This Be My Guest experience pairs regional hospitality with the folklore of a valley long shaped by river trade. It is a more personal encounter than a sightseeing stop, with conversation at the heart of the visit.
Hamburg City Orientation
Discover Hamburg’s iconic sights on an orientation with your Travel Director. Get your bearings in a city whose waterfront, commercial streets and distinctive urban character reflect its long relationship with the sea.
Hamburg grew into a major trading centre through its port and Hanseatic connections, earning its reputation as Germany’s Gateway to the World. The orientation introduces that seafaring heritage while highlighting the energy of the modern city.
Berlin Landmark Tour with a Local Specialist
Explore Berlin with a Local Specialist, viewing the Reichstag and Brandenburg Gate alongside the Tiergarten and Unter den Linden. These landmarks place the capital’s political history and public spaces in sharp focus.
Berlin’s streets bear the marks of empire, war, division and reunification. Hearing their stories where events unfolded helps explain how the city became a capital that holds historic monuments and contemporary life side by side.
Berlin Wall Memorial
Visit the Berlin Wall Memorial on Bernauer Strasse, where preserved sections of the Wall and a watchtower make the former border tangible. Learn how the barrier divided streets, homes and families within one city.
The memorial gives space to the experiences of people who lived with separation or attempted to cross the border. It is a direct and reflective way to understand Berlin’s Cold War history beyond its best-known monuments.
Dresden Historic Centre Walk
Walk through Dresden’s historic centre and see the Semper Opera, Zwinger Palace and reconstructed Frauenkirche. Their ornate facades evoke the city’s former standing as a centre of Saxon art and court culture.
Much of Dresden’s centre was devastated during the Second World War. Learning about its restoration while viewing these landmarks gives meaning to the city’s celebrated Baroque appearance and the careful work behind its revival.
Mödlareuth Open-Air Museum
Visit the Modlareuth Open-Air Museum and see a surviving section of the border wall with its security features. This small village was split between East and West Germany, earning the nickname Little Berlin.
The preserved border installations show how national division affected daily life even far from the capital. Standing in the village brings the scale of the Cold War down to individual streets and neighbours who once lived on opposite sides.
Nuremberg Old Town Orientation
Explore Nuremberg’s Old Town on an orientation that takes in the castle ramparts and the Hauptmarkt. In the main square, see the Frauenkirche rising above a setting long associated with civic life and commerce.
Nuremberg held a prominent place in the Holy Roman Empire, and its fortified skyline still reflects that past. The walk introduces the Franconian city through its historic streets and central landmarks rather than a museum visit.
Rothenburg Medieval Town Walk
Walk the lanes of Rothenburg ob der Tauber, enclosed by remarkably intact medieval walls. Admire half-timbered houses, the market square and the Old Town Hall while exploring one of Germany’s best-preserved historic towns.
The fortified setting makes Rothenburg’s medieval layout easy to appreciate on foot. Cobbled streets and closely packed facades offer a vivid sense of how this Franconian town developed within its defensive walls over centuries.
Munich City Orientation
Discover Munich with your Travel Director, seeing Marienplatz and its neo-Gothic Town Hall, the Cathedral of Our Lady and St Peter’s Church. The orientation also introduces landmarks such as the Residenz, State Opera House and Hofbräuhaus.
These streets bring together Bavaria’s royal history, religious architecture and beer-hall culture. From the Town Hall’s Glockenspiel to the busy central square, the visit offers a clear introduction to Munich’s distinctive civic character.
Neuschwanstein Castle Visit
Visit Neuschwanstein Castle, subject to availability, amid the foothills of the Bavarian Alps. See the towers and dramatic mountain setting of the retreat commissioned by King Ludwig II.
Begun in the 19th century, the castle reflects the king’s fascination with medieval romance and his wish to withdraw from public life. Its theatrical silhouette against the Alpine landscape makes it a distinctive expression of Bavarian royal imagination. Access remains subject to availability.
Black Forest Sustainability Experience at Hofgut Sternen
Meet a local expert at Hofgut Sternen over dinner in the Black Forest to learn about the area’s traditions and the property’s approach to sustainability. Hear how its own energy plant and use of regional resources are intended to help conserve the surrounding environment.
The setting connects practical conservation with a landscape of wooded valleys and long-established crafts. This MAKE TRAVEL MATTER® experience supports United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 15: Life on Land.
Heidelberg Old Town & Castle Views
Discover Heidelberg’s Old Town and look towards the red sandstone ruins of Heidelberg Castle above the Neckar River. The castle and Baroque-style streets create one of Germany’s most recognisable historic cityscapes.
Heidelberg’s riverside setting places the old town beneath a castle shaped by centuries of change. The visit is an opportunity to appreciate those views and the city’s atmosphere; entry to the castle is not specified.
Frankfurt Farewell Dinner
Share a farewell dinner in Frankfurt with your fellow travellers. Gather around the table to reflect on the places and encounters that have made up your journey through Germany.
This hosted group occasion is a chance to exchange favourite moments, from Rhine scenery to Bavarian towns and Berlin’s historic landmarks. Its focus is the company and conversation, offering a shared close to the tour rather than simply another hotel meal.
Hamburg Harbour Guided Cruise
Take a guided cruise through Hamburg’s harbour to see the port from the water and explore the seafaring heritage behind the city’s Gateway to the World nickname. It offers a different perspective from the city orientation on land.
Hamburg’s maritime trade helped shape its identity and international connections. A harbour cruise puts that working-waterfront setting in view. This Optional Experience is at additional cost and bookable on tour.
Potsdam, Wannsee & Sanssouci Gardens
Explore Potsdam and Wannsee on an optional outing from Berlin. Cross the Glienicke Bridge, often called the Spy Bridge, wander the UNESCO-listed gardens of Sanssouci Palace and enjoy lakeside dining.
The bridge recalls Cold War exchanges, while Sanssouci’s landscaped grounds speak to Prussian royal life. Together, they offer contrasting chapters of the region’s history beyond central Berlin. This Optional Experience is at additional cost and bookable on tour.
Dresden In-Depth Exploration
Delve further into Dresden on an optional experience focused on the city’s cultural and architectural treasures. It offers more time to explore the elegant historic centre beyond the included walk past its principal landmarks.
Dresden’s artistic reputation grew under Saxon rulers, while its rebuilt streets tell a story of loss and restoration. Specific visits within this additional excursion are not detailed in the itinerary. It is at additional cost and bookable on tour.
