Additional information

Walk through Kaunas Old Town with a guide to discover one of Lithuania’s historic urban centres. See landmarks including the 13th-century castle, Old Town Hall, Cathedral Basilica and churches while exploring streets shaped by centuries of civic and religious life.

Set near the meeting of the Neris and Nemunas rivers, Kaunas preserves traces of its medieval beginnings alongside later architecture. Encounter Lithuania’s layered heritage in a city whose old town offers a different perspective from the Baltic capitals.

Discover Vilnius on a guided walking tour of its UNESCO-listed Old Town. See the Gate of Dawn and its revered image of the Virgin Mary, Cathedral Square and the Jewish Quarter, and visit the Vilnius University architectural complex.

The walk also reaches the self-proclaimed Republic of Užupis, an artistic neighbourhood with its own constitution, anthem and symbolic guardian, the Angel of Užupis. Its independent spirit contrasts with the capital’s historic churches and academic courtyards, revealing two distinctive sides of Lithuanian culture.

Meet your tour leader and fellow travellers over a medieval-inspired dinner in Tallinn. The Estonian menu draws on authentic documents to evoke the dining of a prosperous 15th-century household, offering a distinctive introduction to the city’s past.

Taste craft beers alongside the meal and discover a contemporary side of Estonia’s food and drink culture. The combination of historic recipes and local brewing makes this a welcome gathering with a strong sense of place.

Walk through Tallinn’s medieval heart with your tour leader on a two-hour exploration of the Estonian capital. See Town Hall Square, Toompea Castle and Alexander Nevsky Cathedral while learning how the city’s mercantile and political histories shaped its streets.

The fortified upper town and bustling lower town offer contrasting views of Tallinn’s past. Gothic civic buildings and the cathedral’s onion domes reveal layers of Baltic, Scandinavian and Russian influence within the UNESCO-listed Old Town.

Go behind the scenes at Tallinn Opera House to see how a performance takes shape beyond the auditorium. Step onto the main stage and explore backstage working areas, which may include the costume department or scene-painting workshop.

This insider visit reveals the craft behind Estonia’s opera and ballet productions, from costumes to theatrical sets. You may even meet a singer or dancer, subject to availability. For July departures, the backstage visit takes place at Riga’s opera house instead, as the Tallinn venue is closed.

Tour Jaanihanso Cidery near Pärnu and taste cider made from fresh, locally grown Estonian apples. Learn how its producers use a traditional sparkling-wine method associated with Champagne and cava to create cider with fine bubbles.

Jaanihanso pioneered natural cider production in Estonia. Sample its apple-led flavours while discovering how a familiar Baltic crop becomes a carefully crafted drink. The visit offers a close look at a modern Estonian producer rooted in local ingredients.

Join a guided tour of Riga’s Art Nouveau District by bus to discover the decorative facades that distinguish Latvia’s capital. Look for sculpted faces, floral motifs and elaborate rooflines across a neighbourhood celebrated for its Jugendstil architecture.

Riga has an exceptionally rich collection of Art Nouveau buildings, reflecting the city’s growth around the turn of the 20th century. Trace the details of its ornate streetscapes and see how architects turned residential buildings into expressive works of art.

Explore Riga’s Old Town on a guided walk past landmarks including Riga Castle, the Dome Cathedral, St Peter’s Church and the Swedish Gate. Its narrow streets bring together the city’s trading history, religious heritage and centuries of changing rule.

Taste Riga Black Balsam in a bar that evokes old-world Riga. This traditional Latvian herbal liqueur adds a local flavour to the walk, while the Swedish Gate, built during Swedish rule in 1698, offers a tangible reminder of the capital’s layered past.

Explore Riga Central Market and its stalls of fresh produce, meats and traditional Latvian foods. A tasting is included, giving you a chance to encounter local flavours within a working market used by residents as well as visitors.

The market occupies vast former airship hangars near the Old Town, giving its food halls an unusually dramatic scale. Browse the lively stalls and see how everyday ingredients reflect Latvia’s culinary traditions, from preserved foods to seasonal produce.

Visit the Stumbras Museum in Kaunas for a guided introduction to Lithuania’s spirits-making heritage. Explore the history of the Stumbras distillery and its part in the country’s industrial development, with a tasting included.

Described as Lithuania’s first museum dedicated to spirits, the museum connects drinks production with a wider story of local enterprise. Sample Lithuanian spirits while learning how longstanding techniques and changing tastes have influenced the distillery’s work.

Share a Lithuanian heritage dinner in Vilnius featuring dishes chosen to reflect the country’s culinary history, with roots reaching back to the Middle Ages. It is a hosted opportunity to explore tradition through a meal rather than a standard hotel dinner.

Discover the stories behind Lithuanian flavours as you dine with your fellow travellers. The historic theme provides a fitting setting for conversation about the places and food cultures encountered across Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.

Explore Birini Manor and its grounds, a historic Latvian estate set among parkland and lakes. Take time to appreciate the manor’s neo-Gothic character and wander through its landscaped setting.

The estate offers a quieter perspective on Latvia’s architectural heritage than the capital’s city streets. Soak in the lakeside atmosphere among mature trees and manor buildings; in summer, there may also be an opportunity for a dip in the lake. The grounds are part of the experience, rather than simply a place to stay.

Visit the Baltic seaside town of Jurmala on an organised excursion from Riga, with a train journey included. Explore independently among sandy beaches, pine forests and golden dunes, choosing which parts of the resort to discover at your own pace.

Beyond the shore, look for Jurmala’s decorative wooden houses, including examples influenced by Jugendstil. Their carved details and verandas give the town a character distinct from Riga’s stone facades. A swim in the Baltic Sea is possible if the weather appeals.

Cruise Lake Galve for views of Trakai Island Castle rising from the water. The boat circles the island setting, offering changing angles on the medieval fortress and its distinctive brick walls.

Trakai was once a centre of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, and its castle remains one of the country’s most recognisable historic landmarks. Take in the lake-and-castle panorama from the boat, a vantage point that reveals why this waterside stronghold has captured the imagination for centuries.

Cuisine in this area is often centred around pork, veal, fish, potatoes, sauerkraut, and soups such as borsch (beetroot soup – in Lithuania this is also served cold). Dumplings are also popular.
