Babbacombe & the Stunning Riviera Railway Line

After breakfast, we check out of the hotel and board the coach for the journey home.

Explore the Exmouth seafront at the mouth of the River Exe—broad sands, a lively promenade and sail-filled estuary views. Stroll to Orcombe Point where the Jurassic Coast begins, marked by the distinctive Geoneedle.

Continue to Sidmouth for a gracious Regency seafront sheltered by russet cliffs. Wander to Connaught Gardens and down Jacob’s Ladder Beach, pairing sea air with classic tearooms and independent shops in this elegant resort.

Visit Teignmouth, where the River Teign meets the open sea. Wander the Den Promenade, breathe salty air on the long beach and admire the Victorian ironwork of the Grand Pier. Back Beach frames photogenic views across to Shaldon.

Perhaps sample fresh fish and chips and watch trains trace Brunel’s famous sea wall. This optional excursion is at an additional cost (from £13pp) and is bookable on tour, offering a leisurely coastal afternoon with classic seaside character.

Travel the Riviera Line along Brunel’s coast-hugging track from Exeter to Paignton, your window skimming the Dawlish sea wall as surf bursts over red sandstone cliffs. Watch wading birds on the Exe Estuary and colourful beach huts slide by.

Engineered by Isambard Kingdom Brunel, this storied route once trialled atmospheric power beside the sea. Settle in to capture sweeping shoreline views and headlands, a photogenic panorama that ranks among Britain’s most celebrated coastal rail journeys.

Join a guided walking tour through Exeter’s historic core, circling Exeter Cathedral on Cathedral Green and threading past the medieval Guildhall and fragments of the Roman city walls. Hear tales of merchants and sieges as you explore cobbled lanes and lively squares.

From the High Street to Exeter Quayside, your guide reveals how Roman Isca grew into a trading city reshaped after the Blitz. Expect recommendations for vantage points, cafes and museums to revisit during your free time.
