Zagreb Welcome Dinner
Meet your Travel Director and fellow travellers over a welcome dinner at a local restaurant in Zagreb. Regional dishes offer an introduction to Croatian flavours and a chance to get to know your Small Group.
Set in Croatia’s capital, where Central European influences meet the routes leading towards the Adriatic, this hosted meal is more than a routine dinner. It creates a shared starting point for conversations about the places, food and traditions you’ll encounter on the journey.
Zagreb Walking Tour & Upper Town Funicular
Walk through Zagreb with a Local Specialist, exploring the formal parks and 19th-century facades of the Lower Town. See the Art Pavilion and Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts, stroll through Zrinjevac Park and ride the short funicular up to the historic Upper Town.
In operation since 1890, the 66-metre funicular links the commercial streets below with the older ridge above. Around St. Mark’s Church and Lotršcak Tower, discover the streets and defensive landmarks that give Zagreb its distinct two-level character.
Ljubljana Guided Walking Tour
Explore Ljubljana with a Local Specialist on a walk along the Ljubljanica River and through the Slovenian capital’s historic squares. See Plecnik’s Triple Bridge, City Hall and the Baroque Cathedral of St. Nicholas, with Ljubljana Castle visible on its hill above the city.
The riverside route reveals how bridges and public spaces connect Ljubljana’s civic and religious landmarks. Architect Jože Plecnik helped shape the city’s distinctive streetscape, giving this compact centre a character that rewards close exploration on foot.
Lake Bled Pletna Boat & Island Church — Choice Experience
Cross Lake Bled by traditional wooden pletna boat, with views of forested shores, mountain slopes and the island at the lake’s centre. Climb the steps to the Church of the Assumption and ring its celebrated wishing bell.
Pletna boats are a longstanding part of life on the lake, while local legend holds that ringing the church bell three times may grant a wish. This is one of two included Lake Bled experiences; travellers choose it instead of the Vila Bled visit.
Vila Bled Cream Cake & Lakeside Terrace — Choice Experience
Visit Vila Bled, a former presidential residence set beside Slovenia’s best-known Alpine lake. Sit on its terrace for coffee and a slice of kremšnita cream cake, looking across the water towards Bled Island and the surrounding hills.
The lakeside setting recalls Bled’s history as a resort and place of retreat. Sampling its signature cream slice here pairs a local food tradition with a particularly memorable view. This is one of two included Lake Bled experiences; travellers choose it instead of the pletna boat visit.
Postojna Cave Underground Train & Cave Walk
Ride an underground train into Postojna Cave before continuing on foot through chambers lined with stalactites, stalagmites and limestone columns. The visit opens up part of a vast Slovenian karst system shaped by water over millions of years.
Postojna has welcomed visitors since the 19th century and was an early pioneer of cave railways. Its passages have also contributed to the study of karst landscapes and unusual underground life, including the aquatic olm, or proteus.
Krk Town Walking Tour & Historic Landmarks
Explore Krk Town with a Local Specialist, walking its walled old streets and visiting St. Mary’s Cathedral, whose roots reach back to an early Christian basilica. View Frankopan Castle and the stone lanes and facades that reflect the town’s medieval and Venetian past.
Krk’s landmarks trace the island’s development from Roman settlement to a centre of Croatian noble power. The Frankopan family’s former stronghold gives a tangible sense of the island’s importance beyond its Adriatic shoreline.
Krk Family Winery & Farm-to-Table Lunch
Visit a family-owned winery on Krk for a farm-to-table lunch prepared with seasonal island ingredients. Taste local wine alongside the meal, including Žlahtina, the white grape closely associated with the island.
This hosted food experience brings Krk’s agricultural traditions to the table. Local produce and wine offer a flavour of the island beyond its coastal towns, while the family-run setting provides a personal introduction to the people who grow and prepare them.
Roman Pula Tour & Arena Visit
Explore Pula with a Local Specialist, beginning inside the Pula Arena, one of the largest and best-preserved Roman amphitheatres still standing. Continue through the city to see the Temple of Augustus and Arch of the Sergii.
Built during the Roman imperial era, the arena once drew crowds for public spectacles; its surviving outer walls make its scale strikingly clear today. The temple and triumphal arch reveal how Roman civic life extended beyond the amphitheatre into the streets of ancient Pula.
Venice Giudecca Canal Boat Orientation
Travel by boat along the Giudecca Canal as your Travel Director introduces Venice from the water. Look out for historic palazzi and views towards the Doge’s Palace and St. Mark’s waterfront across the lagoon.
Approaching by canal reveals why boats remain essential to this island city. Venetian facades face the water that carried merchants, visitors and goods for centuries, offering a distinctive first look at the former maritime republic’s architecture and setting.
Venice Gondola Ride
Glide through Venice’s canals by gondola, passing beneath small bridges and alongside historic facades. From the low seat of the boat, take in details of waterside entrances and palaces that are easy to miss from the streets.
The gondola is a traditional Venetian craft designed for navigation through the city’s narrow waterways. Its quiet pace offers a close view of everyday canal life and of the architecture shaped by Venice’s long relationship with the lagoon.
Murano Glassblowing Workshop
Watch Murano artisans shape molten glass at a traditional workshop and hear how their techniques are passed on. See the precision required to turn glowing material into delicate forms while learning about the craft’s place in Venetian life.
Murano became a centre of glassmaking centuries ago, and its furnaces remain closely tied to the island’s identity. This MAKE TRAVEL MATTER® Experience brings you face to face with skilled makers working to keep a local tradition alive.
Opatija Seafront Promenade & Coastal Dinner
Visit Opatija for a walk along its seafront promenade and a meal featuring coastal specialties at a local restaurant. Take in views across Kvarner Bay while exploring the town’s waterfront.
Opatija developed as a fashionable Adriatic resort during the Habsburg era, and its promenade remains central to its seaside character. This combination of a coastal walk and local dining is an Optional Experience at additional cost and can be booked on tour.
Soncek Community Visit in Ljubljana
Meet people at Soncek, Slovenia’s Cerebral Palsy Association, and learn how its Care and Work Center supports adults with disabilities. See how members create artwork and handcrafted items through adapted employment and shared creative work.
This MAKE TRAVEL MATTER® Experience offers a personal view of community inclusion rather than a conventional sightseeing stop. The visit supports Soncek’s work and connects directly with the United Nations goal of reducing inequalities.
Traditional Dinner at Pr’ Krac
Join a traditional dinner at Pr’ Krac for an introduction to Slovenia’s rural food heritage. The hosted meal offers an opportunity to taste local cooking in a setting focused on the country’s countryside traditions.
Rather than a routine restaurant stop, this experience centres on regional hospitality and the dishes that connect food with place. It is an Optional Experience at additional cost and can be booked on tour.
