Contiki

Walk the trails around Hopfgarten im Brixental on a gentle, hosted sunset hike through the Austrian Tyrol. The route covers approximately 5 kilometres with 250 metres of elevation gain, offering a chance to stretch your legs and get to know your fellow travellers.

Watch the light soften over meadows, village rooftops and Alpine slopes. Hopfgarten sits in the Brixental valley, where mountain paths offer a close-up introduction to the region’s summer landscape.

Explore Lauterbrunnen on a hosted sunset walk, taking in the village and its dramatic setting beneath steep Alpine cliffs. This gentle outing offers time to find your bearings and enjoy the valley as the evening light changes.

Known for its waterfalls and mountain scenery, Lauterbrunnen lies in one of the Bernese Oberland’s most distinctive glacial valleys. Cliff faces, chalet rooftops and distant peaks make the walk a scenic introduction to this Swiss mountain village.

Take a cable car up the Lauterbrunnen valley slopes and follow a roughly 15-kilometre hike towards the mountain village of Murren. The route is mostly flat or downhill, passing woodland, Alpine viewpoints and the village of Gimmelwald.

Visit Trummelbach Falls, where glacier-fed water rushes through channels inside the mountain. The combination of open mountain trails and enclosed, thundering falls reveals two striking sides of the Bernese Oberland landscape.

Ride with a local guide on a roughly 25-kilometre bike tour through the valleys around Hopfgarten. Pedal past mountain streams, waterfalls and green meadows, with some steeper climbs and downhill stretches along the way.

Refuel with an included BBQ lunch of Austrian wurst and kraut salad. The guided ride pairs an active exploration of the Tyrolean countryside with a relaxed taste of regional food; you can tackle the route at your own pace.

Choose a tandem paragliding flight above the Tyrolean Alps near Hopfgarten. Flying with a pilot lets you take in the valley from the air, with a broad view of forested slopes, villages and mountain ridgelines.

This optional experience offers a different perspective on the terrain explored on foot and by bike, without requiring strenuous physical effort. A weight limit of 115 kilograms applies. It is at additional cost and bookable on tour, subject to availability and suitable conditions.

Take to the water near Haiming for a white-water rafting experience in the Austrian Alps. Work together in the raft as the current carries you through a mountain setting, adding a splash of river adventure to the trip’s hiking and cycling.

The activity is described as beginner-friendly, but participants must be able to swim. It is optional, at additional cost and bookable on tour; travellers who do not raft can still spend time in Haiming.

Choose an excursion to the Jungfrau mountain area, celebrated for its high-Alpine scenery and its association with the ‘Top of Europe’. From the Lauterbrunnen region, this is an opportunity to see the Bernese Oberland’s peaks on a grander scale.

Expect a landscape shaped by snow, ice and dramatic elevation, distinct from the green valley below. This optional excursion is at additional cost and bookable on tour; ask your Trip Manager for the available route and what it includes.

Opt for a canyon swing in the mountains near Lauterbrunnen, exchanging a trailside view for a brief, high-adrenaline encounter with the Alpine landscape. The experience centres on the sensation of swinging through a steep-sided mountain setting.

It is designed as an adventure activity rather than a physically strenuous workout, though participants must be in good health and a weight limit of 120 kilograms applies. The canyon swing is at additional cost and bookable on tour, subject to availability and suitable conditions.
