Itinerary
A Weekend on the English Riviera
We begin our day in Dawlish, a quaint and friendly resort that was once a tiny fishing village before the Victorian Railway Age transformed it into a thriving seaside town. Nestled between striking red sandstone cliffs and overlooking a sandy beach, it still has trains running right along the seafront. We then continue to Teignmouth, a handsome estuary town with a bustling harbour, elegant Georgian crescent, classic promenade and Victorian pier offering fine views across the bay.
A Weekend on the English Riviera
Our optional excursion takes us to Brixham, a lively and picturesque fishing port nestled along the English Riviera. Colourful cottages tumble down the hillside towards the harbour, where you’ll find a full-sized replica of Sir Francis Drake’s Golden Hind. Enjoy time to explore the winding streets, browse independent shops and arcades or simply relax with a drink while watching the boats bob in the horseshoe bay. Brixham’s charm and maritime spirit make it a true coastal gem.
Brixham Harbour & Golden Hind Replica
Visit Brixham’s historic harbour on the English Riviera, where trawlers, chandlers and artists share the quayside. Step aboard, or admire from the quay, the full-sized replica of the Golden Hind and wander lanes lined with colour-washed cottages. Take time to browse independent shops and watch the light shift across Tor Bay.
Hear tales of Sir Francis Drake and Brixham’s trawling heritage, and stroll the breakwater for sea views towards Berry Head. Enjoy the working fish market atmosphere. This is an optional excursion at additional cost, bookable on tour.
Evening Entertainment at the Trecarn Hotel
Unwind at the Trecarn Hotel’s lounge and bar as you enjoy evening entertainment in classic seaside style. Depending on the night, expect live music or cabaret, sociable quiz rounds and a relaxed dance floor—an easy way to meet fellow travellers without leaving the hotel.
Embrace a Devon tradition of convivial hotel nights, where songs, stories and humour mingle with a drink from the bar. Entertainment is offered on some evenings during your stay, adding warm community spirit to your time in Torquay.
Dawlish & Teignmouth Coastal Towns
Explore the seaside charms of Dawlish and Teignmouth along Devon’s dramatic coast. Stroll Dawlish’s lawned seafront beneath red sandstone cliffs and watch trains race the Great Western Railway seawall. In Teignmouth, wander the promenade and Victorian pier, taking in views over the Teign estuary and Lyme Bay.
Discover Dawlish’s stream, the Brook, where black swans on the Brook glide past flowerbeds. In Teignmouth, note Den Crescent and the working harbour, shaped by centuries of fishing and trade, with the red headland of the Ness and Shaldon village across the water.
